An Open Letter to President Obama on the Israel-Palestine Issue

February 11, 2009
Vinod Joseph

Dear President Obama,

How do you do, Sir? Today is your 21st day in office and you must be busy with your bailout package for all those undeserving banks. However, I’m sure you have an eye on the Israeli election results. Exit polls have shown the ruling Kadima party in the first place and dramatic gains by Likud, its conservative rival, which is a close second. Avigdor Lieberman’s right-wing Yisrael Beiteinu is in third place and Labor, Israel's founding party and Kadima's current coalition partner is fourth.

Assuming Kadima comes to power and Tzipi Livni becomes Israel’s Prime Minister, you will be dealing with a hawkish bunch of people who have repeatedly failed to make the compromises that are necessary to bring peace in the middle-east. The worst aspect of this election is that Yisrael Beiteinu, much more rightwing than even Likud, is doing better than Labour.

Please don’t get me wrong Mr. President. I have always supported Israel’s right to exist.  Israel was validly created by a UN resolution. Israel was meant to be predominantly Jewish and it is right in encouraging Jews to migrate to Israel. However, Israel wasn’t meant to be entirely Jewish. The UN resolution which created Israel did not allow it to carry out ethnic cleansing of Arabs. Israel’s treatment of its Arab minority has been shameful. Its treatment of Arabs in the occupied territories has been even worse. Further, building Jewish settlements in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip is something that can never be justified. Arabs in Israel are discriminated against and are second-class citizens in their own country. Israel’s economy is not in a good shape. To be very honest, Israel has survived till date mainly because of the unbelievable levels of US aid it has received over the years.

Though Israel has shed its socialist past and has many world class companies and entrepreneurs, Israel still relies on US aid to get by, mainly because of its very high defence budget. Mr. President, I’m all for ensuring that Israel continues to survive. However, Israel must be forced to make concessions to the Palestinians. Now that (relatively) secular Palestinian organisations like the Fatah are weak and unpopular among Palestinians, Israel will have to make its peace with Hamas and Hizbollah.

To begin with, Israel must allow the creation of a viable Palestinian state. No, I’m not talking of Jordan, though it may have more Palestinians than Jordanians. This Palestinian state should include not only the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, but should also have its capital in East Jerusalem. All Jewish settlements must be withdrawn from the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Mr. President, if there is any force on earth which can force Israel to make this concession, it is the United States of America.

The US of A has many levers with which it can force Israel to change. Withholding of financial aid is definitely one option. Not sharing US military technology with Israel is another. Israel may become weak in the short run, as a result, but in the long run, it will be stronger. Mr. President, to Save Israel, it must be made weak

Yours sincerely,

Looks like you're asking Obama to be the manipulative bastard I'd hoped he'd be - a true enemy of the Jewish people (working with a pack of American Jewish traitors so that the stink of all the Arabs who really back him won't be so obvious).

Surprise, Vinod. You and I do not agree on what MY country should do or how it should look, but we agree 100% that the US government should start to cut aid, refuse to share intelligence, and generally act openly like the enemy of the Jewish people that it really is. You give people like me, and there are a lot of us, the opening to get rid or the traitors in Jerusalem and to install a revolutionary Jewish government here that will do what needs to be done to secure the future of this land as a refuge for Jews, and in the future, as a refuge for the other Israelite tribes living round the world.

Nice job!

Sounds like gimmick war by Kadima party paid off as it stalled the Likud party from gaining the majority.

Ruvy, I am a friend of Israel and I'm hoping Obama will be one as well. A good friend doesn't tell lies or flatter you. A good friend tells you the truth when you need to go on a diet and lose weight.

There was never any chance of Likud getting a majority of the seats in parliament. That hasn't happened in the history of the state. The largest number of votes any party got was 40% - or 48 mandates. But the gimmicky war did succeed in allowing Kadima to tie with Likud in seats - the vote of the soldiers, which hasn't been counted yet, generally moves the vote percentages a bit more to the "right" (Likud is a right-wing party like Madonna is a virgin) and gives the (Jewish) religious parties an extra seat as well.

The real news this year was the use by Kadima of the Yisrael Beitenu Party, a Russian immigrants' party headed by someone connected to the Russian mafia here, to attract nationalists away from Likud and real nationalist parties like National Union.

Expect President Peres to invite Tzipi Livni to form a government nest week, and expect her to turn to Yisrael Beitenu, Labor and Shas to form the government. That's approximately 66 to 68 mandates, enough to form a majority in parliament.

And expect her to kiss Obama's ass assiduously.

This Israeli-palestine issue gets more news space than it deserves. It is a non-issue. Ignore these two groups and let them keep killing themselves. If we are so worried, we should be worried about the millions who are dying outside the ME in Africa, S.Asia and S.America

I disagree with Ruvy often but Bob, can you be less convincing?

Red-horned dude? Powerful stuff there amigo. What is it about Zionists you don't like? Engage, enlighten us even if you don't sway Ruvy.

This Israeli-Palestine issue gets more news space than it deserves.

While this is not exactly a non-issue, Chandra is essentially right. Far too much ink/bandwidth is wasted on my neck of the woods. The thousand Arabs killed during the last Israeli anti-terror offensive were a drop in the buck compared to the deaths from warfare elsewhere.

Ruvy, the Israel-Palestine issue is important because it serves as a rallying point for most Muslims, even the moderate ones. When hardcore fundamentalist Muslims want support from their moderate brethren in their fight against secular civil society, they cite the West's support for Israel (despite Israel's many faults and lapses) as a prime example of Western animosity towards Muslims. Settling this issue will take away a big pylon of support for Islamic fundamentalism.

As for fundamentalist settlers like you fighting the Israeli government, it won't be the first time Jew has fought Jew in Palestine. Very sad if it actually happens. I don't think you chaps have a snowballs chance in hell of succeeding.

Israel has made many concessions to the Palestinians, who have essentially ignored them all and made even more impossible demands. It's high time that the Palestinians make some realistic concessions in the name of peace. Or are they simply incapable of doing so?

joelsk44039 (#11) I agree that the Arabs have never made any concessions and Arab intransigence is part of the problem. However, Israel has had its way (using overwhelming force) in almost everything since 1948. What sort of concessions are the Palestinians expected to make in their present condition? I guess you would like them to migrate to Jordan and let Israel keep the entire Gaza Strip and West Bank. And East Jerusalem of course. Is that what you had in mind?

Vinod, if you want to get rid of the Arab terror machine, it's kinda simple. You blow Riyadh to bits and get rid of the Wahhabi bastards who have turned Islam into the hateful nightmare it is. Cut off the head of the snake and the rest of the animal dies off. That is where the money has been flowing from, that is where the inspiration, orders and hate training in the madrassas have been flowing from as well.

At this point, Vinod, it is clear ALL OVER THE WORLD that Arab sentiment is not at all connected to the Land of Israel - it is connected to mawt ál yahúd - death to the Jews, the phrase they screamed as they murdered off Jews in 1929 in Hebron, as they murdered off Jews in Damascus in 1840. And all over Europe, the Europeans just nod their heads in agreement, happy that the Arab or the Moroccan or the Turk is getting his hands dirty attacking Jews while they sit and snicker. Read what Melanie Phillips has to say on the Jew-hatred that makes Britain stink like a Nazi stew-pot, and see how the Swedish police deal with Arab violence in Malmö. These are all warnings for Jews who think that Washington DC is safe for them. It is as safe as - Mumbai.

The Wahhabi hate machine has taken over where Hitler left off, with the extermination of Jews as their first priority. In order for us to live, they must die.

The "Palestinians" goal is a single country that stretches from the borders of Iraq to the Mediterranean. Put simply, they want to massacre us, conquer Jordan and create one country. When you consider that these are the real goals, they would be fools to make any concessions to any Israeli régime - especially if they think they smell Jewish blood and victory in the air.

So long as traitors who kiss Obama's ass rule here, the stink of defeat and uncertainty will hang over Government Hill in Jerusalem. The order of the day is not peace - it is war to victory. Once the Arabs come crawling to us, begging for peace, THEN we can afford to talk peace - not before.

the palestinians have made huge concessions to the israelis,ie. renouncing 78% of a land that was 100% theirs . yassir arafat made one concession after another which got no where exempt more illegal settlements on arab land. before oslo there was approx 85 000 illegal settlers, now there is over 500 000. the palestinians have nothing left to give. hamas was democraticly elected because of the failure of the peace process, which i blame on israel.it seems only armed resistance is the only option because palestinian concessions get nothing in return.
